Shelby Hofer is an actress and the Co-founder of PushPush Theater & Film in Atlanta, where she helps to develop distinctive opportunities for artists to take risks, explore new ideas, connect globally, and collaborate.  She leads workshops for adults and youth, helping to originate the award-winning SmallTall Theater, a program designed to introduce youth to significant writers. In addition to her noted stage and film work at PushPush, she has appeared on many stages locally, nationally and internationally.  In Atlanta her live performances include six productions with Horizon Theater, including Almost Maine the critically acclaimed solo comedy Bad Dates. Her work also includes film, commercials, multimedia, teaching and public speaking. Her most recent PushPush performance of the one-woman show 101 Humiliating Stories (written by Lisa Kron and directed by Lawrence Keller) garnered the #2 spot in Creative Loafing’s Top Ten shows of 2009, as well as of the Top 50 of the Decade. She remounted this show in March of 2011 with Atlanta's Synchronicity Theatre.  This show also garnered the Best Actress award from Creative Loafing Atlanta in 2010. In 2011 and 2012 she produced and performed in a premiere production by Guy Zimmerman, The Black Glass.  The show received critical acclaim and toured to Los Angeles and Berlin in 2013.  Shelby Hofer met her partner, PushPush Artistic Director Tim Habeger, while performing in L.A. playwright Murray Mednick’s Freeze and Baby, Jesus!at 7 Stages Theatre in 1996.  Together, along with more than 400 other artists, they celebrated PushPush's 16th year in 2012.  Together, Shelby and Tim have garnered numerous grants and awards for their work at PushPush, including  Turner Voices, the Home Depot Foundation award for Innovation and Collaboration, Lexus Leaders of the Arts from Public Broadcasting Atlanta, and numerous awards from organizations such as The Theatre Communications Group, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund, The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Goethe Zentrum, The Tanne Foundation, the AEC Trust, and more.  PushPush's mission is to cultivate distinctive local and global opportunities for artistic growth and offer the outcomes to the community through a range of innovative programming. This year Shelby works along with other artists at PushPush to deepen Atlanta's international exchange with the Portal Project, a program that generates an affordable and recurring exchange of artists, ideas, and performances between continents. Shelby is also working with PushPush film and theater artists to develop a new digital series called GRFX, supported in part by the NEA Arts In Media grant.  Shelby is honored to have been among seven other Atlanta artists chosen for a 2012 grant from Idea Capital.  This grant will supported the development of an original creation, SEE THROUGH, an interactive performance about an overly curious tween at an adult party.Shelby and Tim’s finest production to date was little Maximilian Joseph Habeger, born July 29th, 2008.
